i provide editorial services direct to publishers. In most cases this involves liaison with authors to resolve queries that arise during the editing or proofreading process.

I am very grateful to the authors I have worked with for their appreciative remarks:

Merle Read did an excellent job of proofreading my article. Her precision, conscientiousness and attention to detail were welcome indeed. I would be happy to work with her again. (Dr Alex J. Kay, historian and SAGE author)
I hope we may have the chance to work together again. You did a first class job. (Martin Alexander, professor of international relations)
We also extend our warmest thanks to Merle Read [for her] professionalism in editing the book. (Paul Bahn and Paul Pettit, Britain’s Oldest Art, English Heritage, 2009)
We would first and foremost like to thank Pen and Sword Books, especially our managing editor Rupert Harding and our copy editor Merle Read. Without their generous support and guidance this endeavour would simply have been impossible. (Brian Todd Carey, Joshua B. Allfree and John Cairns, Warfare in the Ancient World, Pen and Sword, 2005)
Thanks are also due to Merle Read for her careful and sympathetic editing. (Peter A. Reilly, Flexibility at Work, Gower, 2001)

I also acknowledge the privilege of helping authors reach their readers.
